Everyone is talking about Disobedience, the new film debuting this month based on the novel by Naomi Alderman and starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. It was picked up and produced by Weisz, who reportedly wanted to find two meaty roles for women and read “a lot of lesbian literature” looking for a story to bring to the screen. The film opens in select cities on April 27th and then nationwide later in May.
In this clip, Ronit (Weisz) and Esti (McAdams) return to Ronit’s childhood home where her father lived until his recent death. Ronit is staying with Esti and her husband, all three of whom were childhood best friends, and things have been tense between the women who were in love as teenagers. Feeling unwelcome by the community, Ronit doesn’t know if she should stay or return to New York. Esti gives her a complicated answer.
