The Canadian Screen Awards were Wayhaught thanks to the Earper fandom

Hypernovae. The IBM Roadrunner super computer. Thor’s Hammer. Sure, these are all powerful things, but have you ever seen the sheer force of queer fandoms unite at voting time?

For the fifth time in six years, an actor playing a lesbian, bi or queer character has won the Canadian Screen Awards Audience Choice Award. 2017 and 2018 winners, Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman, wearing the most killer pantsuits, presented this year’s award to Wynonna Earp‘s Dominique Provost-Chalkley.

Both Dominique and co-star Kat Barrell were nominated for the award. When Dominique took to the stage, she brought with her trusty water bottle, that was emblazoned with the words, Fight for Wynonna. If you are not aware, shooting for the fourth season of Wynonna Earp has been put on indefinite hold while their producer, IDW Entertainment, tries to find funding. (You can read more about it here.) It didn’t take long before Dominique invited, well, sweetly demanded, that Kat join her onstage. “Get your ass up here, my darling,” will surely become a new fandom mantra.

Congrats to Dominique Provost-Chalkley on her award. It’s always a pleasure to see the grace and camaraderie we see from these two women on-screen, also play out in real life.
