Six events for lesbian, bi and queer women that should be on your radar

With the closure of may of our beloved lesbian bars and safe spaces, it can often feel like the only place you can hang out with other queer women is online. Well, there are still some really amazing events you can hit up across the country and be one with the community. Whether you like to party, chill, learn or just be yourself, here are six events for lesbian, bi and queer women you should check out.

Lesbians Who Tech and Allies – San Francisco, California

If you are in the world of tech and STEM, then it’s nearly impossible to miss the juggernaut that is Lesbians Who Tech and Allies. Their world famous summits have included speakers like Tegan and Sara, Kara Swisher, Stacey Abrams and more. The org has meetups across the world, encouraging networking within the tech industry, which has been notoriously male-dominated. Their San Francisco summit is the big one, and if you love learning and connecting with others, you’ll want to give it a shot. (March 2-6, 2019)

The Dinah – Palm Springs, California

 

The Dinah Shore is probably the most well known of the “girl parties” in the US, and that’s no wonder since it’s been around since 1991. (Yes, it was featured in an episode of The L Word.) The Dinah is a non-stop party, with DJs, themed dances, live performances and more parties…did I mention parties? If that’s your cup of tea (dance) then check out The Dinah in gorgeous Palm Springs. (April 3-7, 2019)

ClexaCon – Las Vegas, Nevada

If pop culture is your jam, then you definitely won’t want to miss ClexaCon, a multi-fandom event celebrating queer women and their allies. Watch your favorite actors and creators on panels, get autographs and photos, fill your suitcase with fan art and more from vendors, and geek out with a few thousand of your closest friends. I’ll be attending my 4th ClexaCon this April, and it’s always the highlight of my year. (April 11-15, 2019)

A-Camp – Ojai, California

A-Camp is the brainchild of the folks behind Autostraddle.com and they will be celebrating their 11th camp later this summer. With the backdrop of gorgeous Ojai, A-Camp is the answer to, “what would camp be like if it was cool and everyone was queer?” Crafts, outdoor activities, workshops, podcasts, performances, you name it – they have it. Registration for this year’s A-Camp starts on Thursday (1/31) and it will sell out fast, so have your mouse finger ready. (June 5-10, 2019)

Backlot Bash – Chicago, Illinois

This Midwest-based fest started in 2004, and happens the weekend of Chicago Pride. The all-day bash features music and comedy, and this year special guests include actress Sarah Shahi, The Real L Word’s Whitney Mixter, and Kittens. The day before the bash, “Whiskey, Wine and Women” a spirits tasting event with live music.

Aquagirl – Miami Beach, Florida

If you are looking for fun in the sun against the glamorous backdrop of Miami Beach, look no further than Aquagirl. Celebrating their 19th year this September, Aquagirl proves it only gets better with age. Special guests are from the Youtube, Instagram and reality TV worlds, and there’s a real focus on DJs at this event. Take in a yoga class in the AM, then splash around in the pool and dance all night. A portion of Aquagirl’s proceeds goes to its charitable foundation, Aqua Foundation for Women. (September 27-October 1, 2019)
