Congratulations are in order for Carmilla star Elise Bauman! Last night at the Canadian Screen Awards, Bauman won the Audience Choice Award. The out bisexual actress and activist used her speech to thank her dedicated audience, and champion projects made by women, people of color, and LGBTQ persons. She also mentioned that Carmilla is in development to become a prime-time show, so we’ll have to keep on the lookout for more details.
Bauman is most well known for her role as Laura in the Carmilla series and film, but she’s also a musician and budding director. She’s currently working on a new series, The Motorcycle Project, which is in the works at Kinda TV. Bauman has been a positive force for good since her debut in the series in 2014, and has inspired countless fans with her dedication and kindness.
Bauman’s co-star, Natasha Negovanlis won the Audience Award last year and was in attendance to cheer her on. In 2014, out actress Zoie Palmer took home the award, with co-star and LGBTQ ally Anna Silk winning the following year. This goes to show the power of LGBTQ fandom, and the continued importance of representation across all our screens.
