If you love period pieces, you will want to follow the news about the upcoming series about lesbian diarist and woman ahead of her time, Anne Lister. Lister (1791-1840) lived in Yorkshire and was famous for her extensive diaries that detailed her life and lady love affairs. Lister wrote over four million words in these diaries, and those regarding her relationships with women were written in a special code. Now BBC One and HBO have teamed up to bring us a series about her life, called Gentleman Jack, a nickname of Lister’s.
The series, which is still filming and set to air sometime in 2019, stars Suranne Jones as Lister and is created, written and directed by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax). Actresses Sophie Rundle and Lydia Lawton play the two big loves of Lister’s life, Ann Walker and Mariana Walker.
We now have a new picture of Jones as the enigmatic Lister, as well as some new supporting cast announcements. Are you excited for Gentleman Jack?
