Five good (and gay) things that happened this week: 4/14-4/20

Mercury in no longer in retrograde and it’s Friday! Have a good and gay weekend.

 

 

1. The Time 100 features LGBTQ voices like Lena Waithe, Emma Gonzalez, and Janet Mock. This year’s list was just announced for influencers in the arts, politics, culture and more.

 

2. Former Miss America Deidre Downs got hitched! Doctor Deidre Downs Gunn (Miss America 2005) married her girlfriend Abbott Jones this weekend after a year-long courtship. The absolutely brides beamed at their ceremony. Congratulations!

 

3. Couple-ish, Carmilla, Black Lightning and more are shortlisted for the DIVA Awards. More congrats are in order. Diva Magazine, the UK’s leading lesbian and bi magazine, has announced the nominees for their annual awards, and it’s a who’s who in the queer entertainment and media world. You can vote now for your favs. Winners will be announced on June 8th.

 

4. Tessa Thompson and Janelle Monae will be be playing girlfriends in Dirty Computer.  After guesting in Monae’s bold and exciting recent videos, Thompson will be playing the singer’s love interest in the nearly hour-long movie that will accompany Monae’s album, Dirty Computer. The album and film come out on April 27th.

 

 

5. The Leslie is back for Season 2. Awkward lesbians unite! The Leslie, created and starring Kate Johnson, is back fro S2 and already there’s miscommunication, misdirection and a bouquet of violets without a home. Check it out. You can watch all of S1 now as well.
