5 good (and gay) things that happened this week: 10/27 – 11/3

Bring on the good and gay news!

5. Maiden Voyage will feature a fairy tale romance between two women. The creators of Promised Land, a illustrated children’s book about a prince and a farm boy, is now working on the WLW counterpart, Maiden Voyage. “In the Promised Land universe, all are equal – no matter their gender, what they look like or who they love, “say the creators.  “We believe it’s important for LGBTQ youth and their peers to see themselves represented in positive ways, where who they are is not questioned or used as a plot device. Visibility in media is a powerful way to show our young people they belong; if we don’t see ourselves in stories, we don’t see ourselves in the world.” They are holding a Kickstarter to help fund the book, which is aimed at 5-10 year olds.

4. A new issue of the queertastic comic book, Heavy Vinyl is out. Out filmmaker Carly Usdin (Suicide Kale) and artist Nina Vakueva (Lilith’s Word) have teamed up to bring us the story of Chris, a young woman working at a record shop in 1988, which also doubles at the headquarters of teen girl vigilante fight club. Nostalgia! Queer ladies! Kicking butt!

3. Things got real between Tessa and Mariah on The Young and the Restless. After months of slow burn attraction sizzling between Mariah Copeland and Tessa Porter, the two women finally admitted they have the big feels for each other after sharing a kiss a few weeks prior. The problem? Well, Mariah has a boyfriend, and so does Tessa (and it’s Mariah’s brother!). Another big thing: Mariah came out to her mom about her feelings for Tessa, and besides the brother conflict, mom handled it well.
